Dear reades..

Over the last 10 years of participating in the field of civil society, I notice the problem that exists regarding the dissemination of information about our work and contributions to society, as it is usually scarce and sometimes not relevant. On the other hand, in the complexity that characterizes the sector and a great inequality among them due to the lack of callowness, professionalization, funds, between others.

However, social causes encourage me to move forward for common welfare; throughout these years taking part in Amox Tochan, I do realize the importanceof facing the social, economic and cultural problems of Mexico, mostly leftbehind.

Context

Acording to the National Council for the Evaluation of Social Development Policy (CONEVAL: Mexico), in its report on estimates of povert and extreme poverty in Mexico over the 2008 - 2018, until now of 54.4 million people 41.9% are in poverty, 21.1 million have lagging education and only 25.5 million have feeding access.

Given these historical rates, civil society organizations emerge to support the most vulnerable groups and sectors of the country as an alternative to social demands, where the government sector does not directly meet the needs of the population.

¿Qué hace Amox Tochan?

    Guided by the belief that every human being deserves access equality, Amox Tochan seeks to be a meeting point where ancient, traditional, community and scientific knowledge converge to establish pathways being able diminishing inequality; to boost nutrition, feeding, health, education and human development; reduce poverty and hunger rates, increase community engagement and action in order to drive a sustainable social impact and inclusive growth.

    We build the best conditions to avoid forced migration in families and communities of the country. We aim to strengthen an environment that nourishes the body, mind and soul, make conditions that expand the opportunities of childhood, youth, and adult population in Mexico. So, they can realize their fully potential to carry out a productive life according to their interests and needs to achieve their human well- being and succeed in life.

    Creating, building and implementing solutions, strategies and tools collectively, is the way to close gaps inequality in communities that holds out food, health and social development vulnerability, mainly rural, indigenous and peri-urban.

    We regard equity as the basis of opportunities to shape a fair society, so, our ethical and professional work is fund on respect, honesty and loyalty.

    We defend our cause with fidelity and gratitude, to develop bonds of trust with the same interests and needs.

    According to our principles, targeting our goals towards the achievement of the 2030 Agenda implies close cooperation between international, national, regional, and local levels.

    Network work with other civil society organizations constitute the most appropriate strategic action to enhance the positive impact of the actions we carry out. Certainly, this reinforces the advice that coalition building and partnership could be key to success.

    Boosting the opening of opportunities to raise human development ratio and education of childhood, youth and adult population in Mexico, that allows them creating an environment where they can fully realize their possibilities and live productively according to their interests.

Whereby, Amox Tochan supports its principles and programs. Our programs are focussed on helping meet the objectives set out by the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. (UN’s, 2019). Among them are.

Challenges

According to the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), it released information on the situation of children in Mexico, in its Annual Report Mexico 2018, an estimated 39.2 million children and teenagers are:

Whereby, Amox Tochan supports its principles and programs. Our programs are focussed on helping meet the objectives set out by the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. (UN’s, 2019). Among them are:

How do we do it?

Amox Tochan´s work is carried out by an intervention model that help achieve its three organizational goals and embody its commitments to enhance human well-being with equal opportunities, social inclusion and equity.

The three specific goals are:

1) Enjoying a long and healthy life, measured by life expectancy.

2) Providing non formal education for skills´ development assisting elemental training.

3) Approaching to the necessary resources to achieve a decent standard of living and to be able to take part in the life of the community, measured by the estimation of an income from social work.

Programs

Our programs are focussed on helping meet the objectives set out by the UN´s Sustainable Development Goals. Health Education

To achieve the objective 2 Cero hunger and 3 Good health and well-being of the UN´s Sustainable Development Goals, Amox Tochan has created “Health Education”. This program works to ensure opportunities for vulnerable people so, they can achieve their optimal development by addressing basic fundamental needs: food, health and well-being.

The focus areas are:

1) Nutrition and feeding; guidance on knowledge to boost healthy eating habits and adequate nutrition to prevent and control chronic degenerative diseases; diabetes, malnutrition.

2) Food security works towards healthy providing sufficient and nutritious food so children and families gain more access to healthy foods in child care settings, schools and in their communities.

3) Healthy food helps women to undertake self-managed projects to produce food, strengthen developing capacity in households to help improve their quality of life and propel productive capacity, thus contributes to meet the nutritional needs of families.

Growing Together

To achieve the objective 4 Quality Education of the UN´s Sustainable Development Goals, this program seeks to expand capacities and expand poeple´s opportunities through develop psychosocial skills and abilities to ensure that people are mentally and emotionally healthy enough to reach their potential and the decision making process to participate fully in community life.

The focus area is:

Community leadership works for a transformative social change agents in their communities so that vulnerable children and their families can achieve optimal health and well-being, academic achievement and honing leadership skills. The program provides safety education and training to families, and general public. Special emphasis is directed to females, youth and underserved communities.

Sustainable Development

Aligned to the following UN´s Sustainable Development Goals; 1 No poverty, 12 Responsible consumption and production, 13 Climate action and 15 Life on land. The program aims to promote productive capacities, innovative solutions throughout sustanaible projects to create better conditions of living for people and lift themselves out of hunger and poverty. The focus areas are:

1) Sustainable agriculture integrates environmental, social, and economic sustainability within agricultural production to enhance the livelihoods of smallholders farmers and their families.

2) Water managment, soil conservation and preservation for natural resources´s rational use.

3) In relation to the four pillars of food security: food availability (production), access (including land, infrastructure for food transport from surplus to deficit areas, domestic food reserves, safety nets), utilisation (nutrition and feeding interventions) and stability. In so doing, it shall give priority to smallholder agriculture, food processing to create added value enabling sustainable productive systems, local integration with gender mainstreaming and assistance mechanisms for vulnerable popultion, merly, indigenous and rural areas.
